A List Apart has just released their findings of their first Web Design Survey.
It’s very interesting, they had 33,000 respondents so I assume it’s one of the biggest surveys undertaken in our industry. I think they have learned a lot for the next survey, such as not asking ambiguous questions - when asking ethnicity there was no choice to be more than one (plus there was only white, hispanic, asian, black or “other”), if you selected “no degree” it might mean you didn’t finish high school.
But some very interesting results. I’m glad to see that I’m one of 9.8% of people that have had more than 10 jobs. I was afraid it was going to be only me in that category.

I’m also really disappointed to see the salary statistics. Men outnumbered women in answering the survey (almost 83% of respondents were male) and they definitely outnumber women in those earning over $100k. Come on, it’s 2007 - surely we’re not STILL fighting this battle.

But I find it totally inspiring that 78% of us are still frequently or very frequently excited by our field. I think this is the thing I love most about the web industry, the raw passion that everyone has for it.

So go ahead, check out the survey results - I’m curious as to whether the results are surprising or as you’d expect?
Oh, and A List Apart have also made the raw data available for download so you can mix and mash the data as you want to.
